Janssen Dental’s biological dentistry helps your body help itself
Dr. Craig Janssen combines dental expertise with a holistic approach
Biological dentistry is a term that has a tendency to cause some confusion among dentistry professionals as well as our patients. After all, isn’t everything having to do with our health biological in nature?
Well, yes, it is. However, biological dentistry carries a philosophy of looking at the entire body as an integrated system where standard dentistry sometimes falls short. Dr. Craig Janssen and his team at Janssen Dental Clinic differentiate the type of services we provide by focusing on the connection between oral health and the body as a whole.
You might hear biological dentistry referred to as holistic dentistry, and either is acceptable. However, Dr. Craig prefers “biological dentistry” because of his focus on scientifically identifying the root causes behind his patients’ oral health issues. As a biological dentist, he takes into account his patients’ physical and emotional well-being to achieve better dental outcomes.
How is biological dentistry different?
Dr. Craig’s model of biological dentistry looks beyond what’s going on in your mouth to understand other factors that may be playing a role in your overall health. Research has shown definite connections between oral health and other health conditions, most notably heart disease and the immune system.
Conversely, diabetes, osteoporosis, HIV infections and even Alzheimer’s disease can have a negative impact on your oral health. Dr. Craig takes these issues and others into account as a biological dentist. Your oral health is dependent in part on your overall health, and vice versa.
Minimizing the presence of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens is a focal point of procedural biological dentistry at Janssen Dental Clinic. For example, we use ozone as an anti-microbial agent. This supercharged oxygen molecule has been shown to be 1.5 time stronger than chloride, but is much safer. Ozone neutralizes the acidity in your mouth and creates an environment unsuitable for many types of bacteria.
Biological dentistry goes beyond standard dental procedures to focus on health at a cellular level, and that includes giving your body everything it needs for optimal health.
