Make a New Year’s resolution to return to your dental routine

Biological dentistry at Janssen Dental Clinic in Green Bay Wisconsin

Regular dental checkups should be part of your overall health focus

The pandemic threw many of us for a loop over the past two years, interrupting our routines and making it easy to ignore healthcare checkups such as annual physicals and six-month dental checkups. The New Year provides an opportunity to press the reset buttons on our lives and get back into the swing of things.

Dr. Craig Janssen and the rest of the Janssen Dental Clinic team are concerned about your overall health, of which dental health is a good place to start. Regular exercise, eating a healthy diet and getting enough sleep also are essential to keeping your mind and body in top condition.

Since oral health is our area of expertise, let’s start there. When was the last time you had a professional teeth cleaning? It’s important to get back on a regular schedule of six-month checkups to stay on top of any developing issues. We recommend our patients with periodontal disease come in for checkups every 3-4 months, especially since effective treatments go beyond the brushing and flossing you do at home.

You’re not alone if you haven’t had a cleaning in more than six months. Janssen Dental Clinic is a judgement-free zone!

Regular dental visits can help your teeth last longer

Regular brushing and flossing certainly go a long way toward maintaining good dental health. However, studies have shown that professional cleanings and checkups every six months greatly increase the likelihood of long-term oral health.

Our patients who come in only when they feel there might be something wrong in their mouth typically experience more significant issues than our patients who come in regularly. That’s because Dr. Craig is able to address issues earlier in their development, sometimes taking actions to preserve teeth that otherwise would have been too late.

In addition to checking for cavities, Dr. Craig can identify potential problem areas, cracks and other damage, and keep an eye on fillings that may need reconstruction. His goal is to help you keep your current teeth as long as possible, and the best way to do that is with regular cleanings, x-rays and examinations.

Six months is a good rule of thumb with regard to regular visits for both adults and children. Dr. Craig may recommend you come in more often if you have underlying health conditions such as periodontal disease, cancer or diabetes. People with poor oral health also are more prone to cardiovascular problems compared to people with healthy mouths.
