Janssen Dental solidifies its focus on biological dental medicine
Dr. Craig and Mary earn certifications in Integrative Biologic Dental Medicine
Janssen Dental Clinic’s commitment to treating the whole person took a significant step forward this summer as Dr. Craig Janssen and our office manager, Mary, completed a two-year program with the American College of Integrative Medicine and Dentistry’s School of Integrative Biologic Dental Medicine.
Dr. Craig, who has long been a proponent of viewing the entirety of a person’s health in his dental practice, earned certification in Integrative Biologic Dental Medicine and is now a Board Certified Naturopathic Physician.
His program research project on ways to slow or even reverse osteoporosis focused on the effects of vitamins and minerals on the body versus pharmaceutical solutions. Certain drugs can deplete some essential vitamins and minerals in our bodies, particularly calcium, which is critical for strong bones and teeth.
“Biologic dental medicine has a wider scope than traditional dentistry,” Dr. Craig explains. “Mary starts our process with patient education and a complete health history for every patient. We look at the health of the whole person and empower our patients to become their own best health care advocate.”
Mary earned her certification as an Integrative Biologic Dental Assistant and is now a Board Certified Holistic Practitioner. Her research project looked at how CBD reacts with the body. While it is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients in cannabis, the body reacts differently to CBD than it does to THC.
CBD helps receptors in the body communicate with each other rather than impeding that communication. CBD may have biologic dental medicine applications for patients who prefer natural relaxation and anxiety release prior to procedures as opposed to using sedation drugs.
